About
Takae Mizutani and sons is a designer maker who was established in London in 2007 by Takae with the help of her two cats Mooks & Guiness. They started the business at their own pace which involves lots of staring, curling up, chasing, scratching and purring… Their aim is to create products that bring a little smile to people’s faces. Their range of unique ceramic tableware has been capturing kids to grown ups imagination.
The designer; Takae has a wonderful way of looking at the world. She asks questions with a childlike naivety, resulting in egg cups as castles, ceramic horses for the toast soldiers, plates as snails and salt & pepper shakers as boat sails.
Every detail is thought through. The ceramics themselves are beautifully designed and made, the packaging practical for shops and transportation yet deliciously pretty with a tiny leaflet inside describing the items design origins… allowing the new owner to feel connected to Takae’s original thoughts.
Takae Mizutani and Sons’ creations often remind you of nostalgic childhood memories and childlike naivety…. inspiration comes from simple questions such as “why can soldiers not have their own stand?”.
They have been working with a Cornish ceramic factory since 2007and developed a trusty relationship with them. All the ceramic products are produced by highly skilled craftspeople in Cornwall.
They also produce hand printed tea towels. The tea towels are fair trade 100% organic cotton. Takae hand prints each one with her thoughtful designs questioning such as “the number of rain drops to make a puddle?”
