Central Saint Martins' trained designer Emma D'Arcey has developed her own innovative hand-marbling techniques to create truly unique silk fabrics, textiles and surfaces. For each individual piece, layers of paint are carefully applied onto a thickened watery gel and painstakingly manipulated by hand into the desired design. Then exclusive materials such as crepe de chine and duchess satin are laid on top of the gel, effectively absorbing the design and resulting in a visually stunning mix of patterns and colours rarely achievable using more conventional methods.
 
Emma has her own fabric and textile collection, where lengths can be ordered (prices range from £130 - £250 per meter) or alternatively she also works with designers on a collaborative basis.
