Hidden Art Select Kids

Ella Doran and St. Paul’s Way School in Tower Hamlets

This Hidden Art Select Kids’ project, a piloted in 2008, is part of a wider range of Hidden Art Select designer-maker products.

Ella Doran worked with ten Year 10 secondary school pupils from St Paul’s Way Community School, to create a winning surface design to be produced on a melamine tray. This ‘real brief’ gave the pupils an exciting opportunity to work with Ella and to appreciate the steps to making a product.

The starting theme was food, and the pupils created mood boards using a wealth of inspiration. They then produced designs in oil pastels, watercolour, pencil and ink of fruits and vegetables.

Two winning designs were chosen, firstly, Jewel Ahmed for his evocative fruit design and also Zahanggir Hussain for his graphic lobster design. Commendations went to Nadia Sultana and Tuhel Ahmed.

The products were launched at this year’s Hidden Art 100% Design exhibition and will be showcased at the Geffrye Museum until early 2009, where they will be also for sale in the Geffrye Museum shop.

These fantastic trays are for sale on the Hidden Art E-shop- see the Hidden Art Select kids area at  www.hiddenartshop.com.
